Detective Butler 2 - Chapter 1 Demo is Here!
Finally, after many years of writing and coding and throwing it all away just to start all over again, we finally have a demo for people to play!
This demo contains many concepts from and references to older versions of the story, but juxtaposed with more recent ideas. So for me personally, it is both nostalgic and exciting to see this first chapter of the story finally out into the world!
And wow... What a chapter! There are over 20 characters for you to get to know and even a few mysteries for you to solve. It's packed with 1-2 hours of content, even more so if you spend your time enjoying the voices of each line.
Wait... there's voice acting?!
I began this project as a writer and programmer, but more recently found myself taking up the position of artist and voice actor too. I am beyond proud to say that this visual novel represents my own ideal of what this story looks like in my head. And it also represents my ideal of what most visual novels should try to be -- a highly immersive experience on par with TV and film. That's why I put extra effort into making sure there was always motion on the screen and sounds you can hear. It all really brings the experience to life and makes it resonate with you that much more.
I should mention that you DO have the option to turn them off, and I'll be honest, I normally turn the voices off when playing other people's VNs. But I'm keeping them on while playing this one.
I will continue to update the game over time as I improve with asset creation.
I haven't written anything new since January. The past four months have been spent making the art, voices, and programming the game.
Now that we have the foundational Chapter 1 set in stone, it's just a matter of getting back to the writing.
The story is fully outlined at this point, and there won't be any major changes to it, so I just need to keep going with it until it's done.
I am highly considering adding more chapters to the free demo, up until Chapter 4. If you like this idea, let me know in the comments.
And of course, let me know what you think of the demo too! I truly hope people have fun as much fun playing it as I had making it.
